Our team has had a long-time passion for criminal law and equitable justice. Through volunteer work at the local Public Defender's Office, we identified unmet needs in the criminal defense space, and a vast opportunity for leveraging the parsing and predictive abilities of artificial intelligence. We believe that by simultaneously improving workflow efficiency and investigative accuracy, law firms can better serve more clients. As a social impact venture based in Baltimore, we are committed to the cause of equitable defense for all clients.

Iris Gupta
Founder and CEO
Hey, I'm Iris! I'm a student at Johns Hopkins University pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Economics, with an emphasis on artificial intelligence and finance. I have working experience in the Baltimore Public Defender's Office Juvenile Division, and a background in human-AI interaction, having conducted various research projects at the JHU ARCADE Lab surrounding explainable AI models and human-AI trust building.

Hi! I'm Atharva. I have around 2 years of software work experience. I had founded a startup by the name Indegree Technologies, I have won Google Build for Digital India Hackathon, NTT Data Hackathon and Pune smart city Hackathon. I have around 6 patent application out of which 4 are granted.

CounselAI is an artificial intelligence based tool with the potential to revolutionize criminal defense for lawyers and their clients. We are developing a natural language processing (NLP) software to process complex case files, intuitively summarize critical case-specific facts, and transparently provide defense recommendations by taking advantage of past case data.
